On the morning of January 4, 2020, the Faculty of Civil Engineering held the contest "Smart Solution" for students of the cohort 2020. The contest had the participation of 715 students from 6 disciplines of the Faculty.

With the same amount of materials for each group: 01 plywood plate of size 1000 x 1000 x 10 mm, 10 pine tree bars of size 2000 x 20 x 20 mm, 01 wooden glue box with volume of 500 gr, 02 saw arms of 40 cm long and 2 3 meter-long rulers. The teams have to design and construct wooden bridges of 2.3 m long (over span 2.0 m taken by clear distance from the edge to the edge of the abutments), 0.3 m wide and unlimited height. The bridges which can be subjected to the most people without collapse will be the winners.

Although specialized knowledge has just been learned in the first semester of the training programs, within 3 hours, the freshmen have designed and created their own "solid" bridges. The contest not only creates opportunities to work in groups among new members of the class, to develop their soft skills, but also an opportunity to promote creativity of students from different disciplines.

The results of this year are very surprising when the students from the Architecture program won first prize for the structure subjected to the most loading, which traditionally is the award of the students from the construction engineering technology. This group of students also won the award for the most beautiful architecture of the bridge. The structure's second prize was awarded to the group of students from the construction engineering technology and the innovation award went to the group of students from the Interior Architecture program.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering always gives students the opportunity to rub reality through the academic playground and "Smart solution" is the first playground where students can join and show off their talents. We hope that students continue to acquire their knowledge, hone their skills to participate in even greater academic competitions organized by the Faculty, the University as well as National awards.
