Associated with the actual needs of the society for human resources for the field of transportation engineering, especially bridge and highway engineering, the Department of Transportation Engineering, HCMUTE was established in December of 2014, directly under the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Ho Chi Minh city University of Technology and Education.

            The Department includes doctors, experts in the field of Transportation Engineering such as bridges and highways, Tunnels, urban transport, urban traffic, etc. that were graduated from developed countries in the world such as Japan, France, Korea, etc. In the near future, the Department will invite more experts who got the doctor degrees in the field of Transportation Engineering to become the permanent staffs. Besides improving teaching tasks, the department staffs focus on doing scientific research in the related fields as well as creating the strong linkages between the university and outside business.

Initially, the Department is responsible for undergraduate education training program whose name is Bridge and Highway Engineering. Engineers graduated from the department can have abilities of bridge and road design, bridge and road construction or supervision of construction works that relates to roads, urban intersections, tunnels, metro lines, etc. In addition, the graduated engineers can also work in organizations related to transportation management, transport evaluation or construction works.

In long-term periods, the Department will expand the training program that may reach to the remaining aspects of transportation engineering field such as urban Transportation Planning and management, urban transportation network, public transport, waterway, urban railway, urban infrastructure, airports, etc.
